I don’t care where you go, as long as you come home Take the long way, go by the river Take the wrong way, go by the sea Like the birds, it gets cold, so they fly south Like the birds, they come home, sing for me so happily I don’t care where you go, as long as you come home Go climb a mountain, go see your mother Go see your friend on the other side of town Like the birds, in my tree, when they're here they're singing Like the birds, it gets cold, they fly south and then they fly back home I don’t care where you go, just come on home

PLEASE COME OUT It's the time of year when doors don't fit well Windows won't close, beaches fill with empty shells You're tying ribbons all around your little finger To remind you of all you have to do today, but... Please won't you come out Please won't you come out There are stars and there are fireflies Chase me down through the old town I once called you the girl with the tiger inside her Everybody's got to have a secret name So if you feel you're coming apart at the seams Maybe you weren't meant to be suited that way, anyway... Please won't you come out Please won't you come out There are stars and there are fireflies Chase me down through the old town How did we get so derailed and distracted? How long have we been sitting by the side of the road? Do you think the wind stops to think about the pressure As she makes a run from high to low? oh no, so... Please won't you come out Please won't you come out There are stars and there are fireflies Chase me down through the old town

We Fall Out 03:19
WE FALL OUT Learn to sleep standing Walk in waking dreams The strangers we see around town Become your family One by one we fall out from their cold grey lines One by one we fall out from their grand designs Living in a dreamstate Learn to meet their gaze Learn to hold your head high Don't drive while you are crying Soft shoulder rest a while One by one we fall out from the cold grey lines One by one we fall out from their grand designs

LESS SERIOUSLY 6 spoons of honey in my tea Life is short Treats you brutally If we took ourselves less seriously If I take leave of my sanity Could you still love me? Could you still love me? If the flowers I gave you Stayed living on the vine I could give you flowers, All the time So how can you sit there? Rooted in your seat When outer space starts beneath your feet If we took ourselves less seriously If I take leave of my sanity Could you still love me? Could you still love me? I'll speak only in rhymes in your company Diving for pearls in your very blue sea Could you still love me? Unconditionally, eternally

House A Home 03:22
HOUSE A HOME If I open the curtains, would you open your eyes? Let the sun treat you nice Open the window, all the boxes Open our minds to the possibility of Now, it's time Gonna make this house a home When the wind blows through the room It reminds me of that old tune That was playing in your car on the day that I met you On that day I knew, that we were driving home. Because you make this house a home. When all you got is rain and snow And all our friends are off in Mexico, I got you and you got me, I'm about as happy as a man could ever be And we'll stay right here, because I finally feel like I'm home
6.
Owl Creek 02:02
OWL CREEK From the bridge he took his leap Felt the water, cool and deep Took a breath and the let the current Carry him downstream His eyes opened wide As the noise was he left behind No one can keep your thoughts from getting home The trees have all shed their leaves Which laugh beneath his blistered feet Insects scream their symphony One more hill and he's home Where his love waits Their arms are opened wide As the rope pulls tight.... No one can keep our thoughts from going home Darling you know I am coming home
7.
LOVE AFTER ALL What were you scared of? Why won't you let go? Ain't no devil down there It's just love after all
8.
GREEN RIVER SERENADE Green River, can she float you down, can she ride you? Just a clear green soul, in a clouded silty world, Trying to leave Utah, but mama I'm a wanted girl Yes mama, I'm a wanted girl Trying to make it to the sea, my junked up friends and me And I hope there's something left, of this green-eyed girl if I reach her Green River, can she float you down, can she ride you?

HADN'T MET YOU YET Pray to no one, talk to someone so I won’t feel alone My fears were photos, my hopes Miros Hanging in my room I met so many people All shadows and silhouettes.. But I hadn’t, I hadn’t met you yet Like a red bird sputtering in the snow How’d I forget to leave? Ice was forming while I‘d been dreaming Southward-bound dreams In the stillness of that winter, my ways were firmly set Still I held on, I hadn’t met you yet. Clouds are gathering, over my head No time for sleeping, no time to rest Birds are swarming, skies are turning red No time for sleeping, no time to rest I hadn’t met you yet Spring came silently, crept in quietly Found me where I lay From leaves soggy, steam rose groggy Sunlight warmed the day So I never got to meet you, never made from the net I drank my fill of water, but my mouth was never wet Gladly took the blindfold and the cigarette I hadn’t met you yet

I THINK THEY MEAN WELL Well I think they mean well I really think They’ve the best intentions, But they cant keep you and me from being friends I will leap their good intentions And forgo their bad directions And pity the one, who can’t remember first love But oh love They can’t keep you and me from being friends Under the porch, I'll wait for you Wait for your plans to all fall through The splintered sunlight shines on first love I was a wheel, but you were the chain, You're the reason I'm turning again But have you ever looked up and saw you were so far from home But oh love They can’t keep you and me from being friends

DAY AT THE SEA For Hunter Zen Thawley (2006-2010) Do you remember? How the sun tried in vain To warm the day Or how the salt wind Put a tangle in your hair? Your jet black hair We were the only ones there But as sure as gulls dance in the sky We saw your toothy smile and your laughing eyes It was your day at the sea And your love was a wave Come crashing through our memory Do you remember? The shape of wind-filled sails Castles made of pails Do you remember? The wind on the saw grass hill And how the world refused to stay sad Or stay still But as sure as gulls dance in the sky We saw your toothy smile and your laughing eyes It was your day at the sea And your love was a wave Come crashing through our memory

5 Inch Wall 05:13
5 INCH WALL There’s a five inch wall between the bed and the world There's a wide awake guy, there’s one sleeping girl The whisper of the trees ain't soothing to me It scares me to the core Under pale white paint, lies plaster and lathe A lonely air space where insulation was never placed Tar paper once black, faded with time Ship lap redwood nailed to the outside Can this be all that keeps us safe and dry? Can a 5-inch wall keep the midnight on the outside No it's you, like a pillow 'neath my mind Keeps the midnight on the outside If thieves came fast, with eyes of slate Would this old dead bolt hold back their weight Bubbled glass now sagging with age Would laugh as it shattered, and welcome in the rain Over our heads, there’s tar and gravel But don’t you know things tend to unravel The night birds calling ain't soothing to me They scare me to the core We walk on planks, we balance on beams That once stood as the tallest trees Rip them out of the deepest loam Stack 'em back up and call it a home It's a five inch wall between the bed and the world There's one sleeping guy, there’s one sleeping girl But the nightbirds crying ain't soothing to me They come calling, calling in my dreams Can this be all that keeps us safe and dry? Can a 5-inch wall keep the midnight on the outside? No it's you, like a pillow 'neath my mind Keeps the midnight on the outside

THINGS THAT MATTER A heart that beats A voice that speaks Feet that fly me down the street I just want the things that matter Don't ever keep your voice down Don't let em turn you around Don't let em keep you From the things that matter Hands that fit the curves That fit the lines And you’re the poem I wrote And that's what really matters Don't ever keep your voice down Don't let em turn you around Don't let em keep you From the things that matter

about

Sometimes it takes your feet flying out from under you to realize that landing back on earth alive and still able to walk is a gift.

"A heart that beats, a voice that speaks, feet that fly me down the street, I just want the things that matter"

I had a post-thanksgiving fall down a staircase that landed me in the ER with a broken L3 vertebrae. My fall laid me up for awhile through the Winter. I couldn't lift my new son, got a tad too dependent on percocet, but also had some needed time for reflection and writing .

6 Spoons of Honey builds on my past collaborations with producers Jon Evans and JJ Wiesler and involved a total of 20 players. While guitar is always ever-present on my records, and this one is no exception, you will also hear a metal filing cabinet used as a kick-drum, a chapei dong veng (a gourde-based cambodian stringed instrument), banjo, cello, a harpsichord found on the street (not a fun thing to tune), berimbau and more.

Still, I promise it's not art-rock.. I've tried to make (most of) these songs as singable and memorable as campfire ditties. I think this record will make you smile--that one you will reach for while you make dinner....

If you want a physical CD with stunning artwork by Alicia Buelow, they will be available in about 2 weeks on CDbaby. If you want to download the album first, and can manage $15, I'll send you a signed copy of the actual CD once it arrives. It will arrive in a beautifully designed "eco-wallet" (no plastic or shrinkwrap) with lyrics printed.

It would mean a lot to me for you to hear these new songs, so even if you can't afford $15 right now, download it for whatever you can afford to pay, even if its a token amount. I know a lot of you are under-employed at the moment, so I hope this CD can provide some needed distraction, while also being a worthy companion to your better times.

NB... I'm donating a percentage of sales to the Healing Hunter foundation with supports research into finding a cure for AML Leukemia in children. Hunter Zen Thawley, a remarkable young boy who passed far too early, inspired the song, Day at the Sea. 100% of the proceeds of that track go to research for finding a cure this disease. If you purchase the entire CD, 8% (1/13) goes to the Foundation.
